Description

Part #1 on Clutch Diagram

The 2-stroke bicycle engine clutch wheel nut, sometimes referred to as the "flower nut", "wing nut" and "clutch adjusting nut", can be found on the clutch cover. To remove the clutch wheel nut, first the gear case cover must be removed to expose the clutch cover. Next to the clutch wheel nut is a locking Phillips screw. This must be removed. The clutch wheel nut is now ready to be removed using a chisel and hammer (clockwise). Once you get about a half turn on the clutch wheel nut, slip the spark plug removal tool around the clutch arm and use it to pull the clutch arm in and push down on the clutch cover. This will make the clutch wheel nut easy to remove by hand. When re-installing the clutch wheel nut, first tighten the clutch wheel nut by hand, then repeat the process of pulling in the clutch arm with the spark plug removal tool. You must adjust the clutch nut so that the clutch cover has a displacement of about 1/8th inch. Too close to the clutch pads the rear wheel will move, too far away and it will slip. Ensure that the Phillips screw is inserted against the U part of the clutch wheel nut to lock it in place. Replace gear case cover.
